ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
As with any investigation company completing an editorial product, it is essential to mention our ack-
nowledgement to those, who from dierent places and instances, made it possible to adequately develop
the project that allowed the draing of the text herein delivered. In such regard, there are at least ve
dierent groups of people, worth mentioning:
First, the Colombian Air Force team that, as active counterpart along the entire exercise, was a
demanding and respectful academic peer1. We must mention, as reference, Ricardo Esquivel, PhD in
history, and leader of the institutional memory construction work, who from his convictions was always
open to comment, discuss and suggest clarications regarding each of the products being delivered. His
keen observations and suggestions led to review, rene and improve the texts produced.
Secondly, readers - peer reviewers, Jean Carlo Mejia and Mario Gomez, who in a very professio-
nal and very expeditious manner, reviewed the rst version of the full document and gave the team a very
valuable set of observations, criticisms, recommendations, suggestions and questions, which signicantly
improved the depth, accuracy, unity and scope of the dierent chapters and of the book as a whole.
ird, an institutional recognition to the dierent divisions of the Ponticia Universidad Javeria-
na that, in very dierent ways, allowed the team to move on with the work in very tight timeframes. From
the Vice Rector’s oce of Institutional Relations and the team of consultants, who provided the condi-
tions for the establishment of the team and to kick o the project, to the administrative authorities, going
through the Rector’s oce and Vice Rectors’ oces availability to support the dierent events organized
as part of the project. Without such institutional support, which also implied the University’s certainty
and capacity to respond to the proposed challenge, it would have been impossible to move forward with
this exercise. Special mention should be given to the Editorial Javeriana team, led by its director, Nicolas
Morales, who exibly and patiently understood the particularities and challenges of the exercise carried
out, and ensured its successful conclusion in terms of excellence.
Fourth, special recognition to the Faculty of Political Science and International Relations, star-
ting with its Dean, Father Edwin Murillo Amaris S.J., who provided support and demonstrated trust for
the team to undertake the task. We must specially mention the allocation of resources of the Faculty for a
possible edition of the book, according to the highest quality standards. We must also mention Eduardo
Pastrana, director of the Department of International Relations, who facilitated the participation of one
1 is research was funded by the Colombian Air Force. However, the investigation team at the Ponticia Universidad Jave-
riana had full autonomy to ensure that the analyzes presented actually matched standard academic criteria. ese analyzes and
views expressed in this connection therewith are the responsibility of the authors.
