5.1. Introduction
The analy sis of labour demand infor mation is a relevant factor to im prove peo-
ple’s skills accordi ng to employer requireme nts. As mentioned by the OECD
(2017b), the capacity of count ries to improve and a djust their labou r supply
according to labou r demand for skil ls determine s different la bour outcomes
such as product ivity and economic g rowth, am ong others, and in t he context
of this book , unemployment, infor mality, etc. However, as discus sed in Chapter 4,
this capacit y to analyse labour dem and, in most countries , has been hampered
by a lack of informa tion about employer requi rements.
Recently, online job por tals have caught t he attention of resear chers and
policyma kers insofar a s they might f‌il l the labour dema nd information gap
(Kureková , Beblavy, and Thum, 2014; Reimsbach- Kounatze 2015). These job

or some websites might show r emuneration infor mation with nu mbers while
others displ ay them with words or ranges (e.g. month ly £2,000 or two thousa nd
pounds per month , or between £1,750–£2,250 mont hly). Moreover, relevant
informat ion such as job titles or dem anded skill s are not categorised to fac ili-
tate labour dema nd analysis.
For the reasons mentioned a bove, vacancy information is not orga nised,
categorised, a nd consolidated in a dat abase for statist ical purpose s. Thus, it is
necessary t o develop a robust methodology that collec ts, organises, categorises ,
