Faced with an education that privileges the paradigm of science as the supreme panacea of our civilization and gloriies the art as the instru-ment par excellence domain , the question of meaning , by being and by the man himself becomes more acute as it is in where man dwells the truth. Hence humanize education becomes an urgent , necessary and priority global challenge for man shall not perish from the face of the earth . Responding to this challenge the Department of Humanities at the University of Santo Tomas , from that have developed initiatives to humanize Higher Education focused on the strengthening of the processes of teaching, research and outreach , substantive functions of the university emerges . These initiatives have emerged of teachers and students in order to visualize the humanities, highlight and recognize its value as the essence of Aquinas College .
As to the irst substantive - function teaching - have been subjected to a continuous improvement planning processes for the contents of class -Syllabus - as well as tutorials and workshops to strengthen the program of student support against desertion . The Syllabus for each subject seeks to develop problémicos cores in order to articulate the humanities to social problems and needs that owns the college student from the challenges imposed their profession. Moreover, the tutorials have been proposed as spaces to reinforce the learning process of students and student support workshops emphasize methodological issues that develop skills of reading and writing, speaking and study skills . We can say that the use of virtuality has been assumed to procedurally as complementation classes, but never as a substitute for the direct relationship between teacher and student.
Opposite the second substantive - function research , the Department has made to germinate the seed had been planted since 2007 with the oficial creation of the research group Expeditionary Humanists . Four have been the emphasis that the research group has deined and each of its research .
