This text explores the relationship between law and justice, the central theme
of two of Schlink´s novels: The Deceit of Selb and The Justice of Selb. Law
and justice appear in these works following three intercepting axes. In the
first instance, an axis composed of two categories: validity and justice. In the
second instance, one conformed by juridical-political legislation, identity and
guilt. Lastly, an axis appears constituted by the concepts of truth and judicial
process.

En el campo de derecho y literatura hay tres áreas dentro de las cuales
se han concentrado tradicionalmente los trabajos de investigación.2 En la
primera de ellas, los estudios giran en torno a la manera como la literatura
imagina al derecho, esto es, al análisis de la forma como los textos literarios
representan el mundo jurídico.3 Los investigadores que desarrollan su trabajo
