I heartily accept the motto, >. Professor's Salazar and Castillo novel and rigorous point of view of analyzing Colombian Conflict differentiates from earlier efforts that were oriented in some cases on a pictorial inventory of the causes and origins of the conflict, and others on the search and knowledge of individual action in pursuit of one owns' interests. This book, on the other hand sagely provides a profound analysis of the strategic interaction constantly arousing among the protagonists of our conflict.

After the fall of the wall, the dissolution of the soviet union, the unpleasant currents of air that came from Cuba, and the lack of support to fight for the cause, gave birth to the overrated belief that Colombian guerrilla groups had nothing to do with the world once the dust was settled down. Overrated or not, one of this books' intentions has not but to answer the following questions: Why could certain armed organizations perpetuate and germinate in a changing world where the dust seemed settling? In other words, what random forces or special circumstances allowed the intensification, enlargement and extension of the conflict? It was precisely these questions that gave the authors the opportunity to approach the Colombian Conflict from a point of view of theory (1) as well as an economic theory of conflict.

In this sense, this book represents a different course of action, agents are not assumed to be hyper-rational, but on the other hand they are not devoid of rationality: they adapt. Against this well-known wisdom, Salazar and Castillo point out that Colombian Conflict comes not from irrational behaviors, but from rational actions of armed and non-armed agents that adapt their behavior in response to high levels of uncertainty, tasteless solidarity and the cultivation of unequal and narrow human sympathy. They look around at each other metaphorically speaking, gather information, and act rationally in view of their limitations. They are not perfectly rational nor fully informed about the world they live in. They adjust their behavior to what they think other agents are about to o, or in some cases, do.
