According to Article 26 of the Statute of the ICJ, “the Court may from time
to time form one or more chambers, composed of three or more judges as
the Court may determine”. The Statute sets out that there can be three kinds
of Chambers (articles 26 and 27 of the Statute) which Rosenne enumerates
as follows:
(a) a standing chamber with jurisdiction limited to a particular category
of dispute, called here for convenience a Special Chamber;
(b) a chamber formed to deal with a particular case, called here for
convenience an ad hoc Chamber; and
(c) the Chamber of Summary Procedure, also a standing chamber but
distinguished from a special chamber in that it is endowed with ge-
neral jurisdiction”134.
