Are free associations of public or private vessel ow-
ners that have the objective to relate services and
fares within a determined geographic area, through
xing behavior some rules, which failure to comply
carries sanctions for the carrier according to the same
conference.
Son asociaciones libres de navieros públicos
o privados, que tienen por objeto racionali-
zar servicios y etes dentro de un área geo-
gráca determinada, mediante la jación
de unas normas de comportamiento, cuyo
incumplimiento acarrea sanciones para el
naviero por parte de la misma conferencia.
POOLES/CONVENIOS
To control participation of maritime liners in the
conferred trafc, Assemblers form some resolutions
of pools, that denominate “full money pool”. These
have as an objective to determine the percentage fa-
res that the can generate the maritime liners, and the
“tonnage pool”, which objective is to determine the
cargo percentages or tonnage to which the maritime
liners have the right within the conferred trafc.
Para controlar la participación de las líneas
marítimas en él traco conferenciado, los
armadores celebran unos acuerdos de pool,
que se denominan “full money poll”. Éstos
tienen por objeto determinar el porcentaje
de etes que pueden generar las líneas ma-
rítimas; y el “tonnage pool”, cuyo objeto es
el de determinar los porcentajes de carga
o tonelajes a que tienen derecho las líneas
marítimas dentro del traco conferenciado.
DISPOSITION OF FARES/
ACUERDO DE FLETES
Is an accordance between two or more liners or ass-
emblers, which objective is to apply the same fares
in a determined trafc. It differs from the maritim e
conferences, because this accordance doesn’t carry
sanctions for not complying with the pact.
Es un convenio entre dos o más líneas
marítimas o armadores, cuyo objeto es el
de aplic ar los mismos etes en un tráco
determinado. Se diferencia de la confe-
rencia marítima, en que este acuerdo no
acarrea sanciones por incumplimiento de
lo pactado.
SERVICES ACCORDANCE/
ACUERDO DE SERVICIOS
Is an accordance between two or more maritime or
assembler liners, which objective is to exploit a de-
termined trafc in equal conditions.
Es un convenio entre dos o más líneas ma-
rítimas o armadores, cuyo objeto es el de
explotar un tráco determinado en igual-
dad de condiciones.
DISCUSSION AGREEMENT/
COMITÉ DE FLETES
Is an association of ship owners that have as an objec-
tive to unify trafc fares, that are issued in defense of
their economic interests. Deferring from the maritime
conferences, accordance’s are gentleman’s pacts, that
aren’t of obligatory compliance.
Es una asociación de navieros que tie ne
por objeto unicar las tarifas del tráco,
que se promulgan en defensa de sus intere-
ses económicos. A diferencia de las confe-
rencias marítimas, los acuerdos son pacto
de caballeros, que no son de obligatorio
cumplimiento.
JOINT VENTURE/
AVENTURA UNIDA
These are agreements celebrated by two or more mari-
time liners that serve the same trafc, with the objecti-
ve to chare generated gains and loses, in the service.
(Acuerdo de Explotación Conjunta). Son
acuerdos que celebran dos o más líneas ma-
rítimas y que sirven un mismo traco, con
el objeto de repartir las ganancias y pérdidas
generadas, en la prestación del servicio.

DEFINITION/DEFINICIÓN
Are national and international entities, that accom-
plish different functions in benet of the assemblers,
safety in navigation, and the conservation of the
maritime’s ecology. They also contribute to the uni-
cation of norms about maritime transport of cargo,
the chartering of ships and prevention of contraband
or free riders.
Son entidades naciona les e internaciona-
les, que cumplen diferentes funciones en
benecio de lo s armadores, la seguridad
en la navegación y la conservación del me-
dio ambiente marítimo. Adem ás aportan a
la unicación de normas sobre el trans-
porte marítimo de carga, el etamento de
buques y la prevención de contrabando y
polizones.

They have their main ofce in Lima, Peru and it is
constituted by the group of Andino Assemblers Asso-
ciation from the countries of the Andino Group. For
Colombia participates ARMACOL.

With main ofce in Bogotá its principal functions
are to propose to the National Government, politics to
foment and develop the Colombian Merchant Mari-
ne, thus to study and gather norms and regulations on
navigation and exterior commerce, also to represent
the assemblers before the political powers and inter-
national organizations.
Con sede en Bogotá, sus funciones prin-
cipales son las de proponer al Gobierno
Nacional, políticas para fomentar y desa-
rrollar la Marina Mercante Colombiana,
así como estudiar y recopilar normas y
regulaciones sobre navegación y comercio
exterior, además de representar a los Ar-
madores ante los poderes políticos y orga-
nismos internacionales.

Is a civil nonprot corporation, domiciled in Bogotá,
Colombia, formed by maritime agents, and national
maritime liners. It’sprimary objective is the study, di-
ffusion, fomentation and defense of anything that inter-
ests the maritime and uvial commerce, international,
and national, and to the Colombian portuary activity.
Es una corporación civil sin ánimo de lu-
cro, con domicilio en la ciudad de Bogotá,
conformada por agentes marítimos y líneas
marítimas nacionales. Su objeto primordial
es el estudio, difusión, fomento y defensa
de cuanto intereses al comercio marítimo
y uvial, internacional y nacional, y a la
actividad portuaria de Colombia.

It’s a dependency of the Colombian Defense Minis-
try, that executes the government policy in maritime
matters. Has as objective the direction, coordination
and maritime activities control.
Es una dependencia del Ministerio de De-
fensa de Colombia, y que ejecuta la política
del Gobierno en materia marítima . Tiene
por objeto la dirección, coordinación y
control de las actividades marítimas
FEDERAL MARITIME
COMMISSION: (COMISIÓN
MARÍTIMA FEDERAL)
Is the maritime authority that at federal level, regula-
tes service presen tations of international transport of
cargo service in the United States. As such, puts out
norms and regulations, controls transportation fares,
authorizes appointment of trafcs, impose sanctions
to imposed norms violators in the Shipping Act (Ma-
ritime Law) and approves maritime resolutions.
Es la autoridad marítima que a nivel fede-
ral, regula las prestaciones de servicio de
transporte internacional de carga en Estados
Unidos. Como tal, emite normas y regula-
ciones, controla las tarifas del transporte,
autoriza la adjudicación de trácos, impo-
ne sanciones a quienes violen las normas
establecidas en el Ley Marítima (Shipping
Act.) y aprueba los convenios marítimos.
IMO. INTERNATIONAL MARITIME
ORGANIZATION: (ORGANIZACIÓN
MARÍTIMA INTERNACIONAL).
Is a United Nations organization, who’s objective is
to achieve multi-national agreements for the conser-
vation of the maritime environment, and for the regu-
lation of maritime activity. Equally, expedites norms
and recommendations on maritime navigation safety,
among them stands out the classication and ruling
of dangerous cargo.
Es un organismo de las Naciones Unidas,
cuyo objetivo es lograr acuerdos multina-
cionales para la conservación del medio
ambiente marítimo, y para la regulación de
la actividad marítima. Igualmente, expide
normas y recomendaciones sobre seguri-
dad en la navegación marítima, dentro de
las cuales se destaca la clasicación y re-
glamentación de las cargas peligrosas.
INTERNATIONAL CHAMBER
OF SHIPPING: (CÁMARA
MARÍTIMA INTERNACIONAL)
Is a private organism integrated by international ass-
emblers. Its main ofce is in London, and their ob-
jectives are to unify politics in benet of international
maritime cargo transport, promote maritime interests
such as documentation, insurance, maritime rights,
safety and ocean contamination. It participates in all
works related to the international activity, that the
United Nations go for.
Es un organismo privado integrado por ar-
madores internacionales. Su sede está ubi-
cada en Londres, y sus objetivos son los
de unicar políticas en benecio del trans-
porte marítimo internacional de carga,
promover los intereses marítimos como
documentación, seguros, derechos maríti-
mos, seguridad y contaminación del mar.
Participa en todos los trabajos relativos a
la actividad marítima internacional, que se
adelanten en las Naciones Unidas.

COMMITTEE: (COMITÉ
MARÍTIMO INTERNACIONAL)
Created in Ambers in 1987. It is a private association
in which form part the national association s of as-
semblers from different countries. Since creation of
this organism, International agreements have been
approved about boardings, assistance, and salvage,
knowledge of embark, privileges and maritime mort-
gages, and common damages, among others.
